Sue Redfern
Sue Redfern has spent more than 40 years as a volunteer administrator in the sport of lacrosse, having culminated by serving as president of World Lacrosse since 2017.
At World Lacrosse, Redfern has led the organization through a period of unparalleled growth, development and change, including modernization of governance structures, attainment of provisional and full recognition by the IOC, and returning lacrosse to the Olympic program for LA28. She has also established a number of commissions, including Ethics, Diversity and Women in Sport.
Redfern has held multiple other senior volunteer roles within the sport both in the UK and internationally. She was a vice president of the International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations from 2001-08 and served on the transition board that merged the men’s and the women’s International Federations into what is now World Lacrosse, and was the world championship director for the 2001 WL Women’s Championship in England.
Previously, Redfern was chair of the All England Women’s Lacrosse Association from 1986-89 and chair of England Lacrosse from 2012-16. She also served a term as president of England Lacrosse and was secretary to the Women’s Lacrosse GB Council.
Redfern’s professional career was in the information world, training as a librarian before gaining an MBA. From 1997-2012 she served as University librarian and director of Information Services at Roehampton University London, where she had a wide responsibility for libraries, IT, media, TV, web services and careers.
Having also played lacrosse for 17 years at the club and county levels in England, Redfern has been the recipient of numerous awards, including Lifetime Achiever /Honorary Life awards from both England and World Lacrosse, as well as development awards from both, and a national Torch Trophy for grassroots development presented by Prince William and Sir Bobbie Charlton.
