Kit McConnell

In his role as IOC Sports Director, Kit McConnell leads all relations with International Federations and partnerships with OCOG sports departments, including the organisation and planning of sports delivery at the Olympic Games, and the analysis of the sports and event programme planning for the Games.

In addition, he has direct reporting lines with the Athletes’ and Medical and Scientific departments, and is the organisational lead on key strategic projects such as esports.

Previously he was a member of the Sydney 2000 Organising Committee Sports Department (1998-1999), and worked at the IOC from 1996 to 1997 and again from 2000 to 2002. From 2002 to 2013 he was Rugby World Cup Tournament Director at World Rugby.

McConnell is a dual Australian and New Zealand national, and his extensive experience within the Olympic Movement and the delivery of Olympic Games and other major events has helped him build expertise in balancing event delivery with strategic planning and solutions.
