SportAccord and GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli today shared a message of support with the global sports community ahead of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 Opening Ceremony.
“The COVID-19 pandemic is continuing in many parts of the world, and it has had a great impact on our daily lives over the last 18 months or so. During this time, we, the global sports community, have overcome some of the greatest challenges and obstacles.
“Thanks to the hard work and collaborative efforts of the IOC, the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee, and Japan, the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is now only moments away. A global celebration that can bring fresh hope and encouragement to people around the world through the power of sport. And an opportunity to wish the very best of luck to the some 11,500 athletes set to compete for 339 medals across 33 sports. No doubt, the athletes will provide so many moments that will give each and every one of us a sense of hope for the future.
“Therefore, on behalf of GAISF, I would like to share my sincere gratitude for the incredible efforts of the global sports community, the athletes, the coaches, the officials and the volunteers for making Tokyo 2020 possible.”
